A Special Encounter by Leedah Wong

For Grandparent’s Day, ENCOUNTER Young Adult Ministry decided to put Jesus’ words to action by inviting SBCC’s grandparents to rent-a-young-adult. Grandparents were welcomed to think of any household tasks, errands, or yard work that they would like help with. They could then sign up to “rent” a few young adults, free of charge, who would offer up their time and love to complete that task.

Many of our ENCOUNTER Young Adults stepped up to the plate and spent their Saturdays trimming bushes, raking leaves, cleaning out sheds and getting to know the wonderful grandparents of SBCC. It was a beautiful experience being able to show the love of Jesus in a practical way. Recently, one of our grandparents expressed, “Thank you...for helping me in my backyard.  It inspired me to get more done.  A helping hand is worth its weight in gold.” Our prayer is that ENCOUNTER would be a young adult ministry that not only dives deep into God’s word, but also displays the hands and feet of Jesus to our beloved community both inside and outside this church.
