The Flourish Collective is committed to building and equipping allies—we need allies more than ever! Our 2025 Annual Gathering, “Weaving Threads of Allyship: Building Collective Impact,” will be held Friday evening, February 28th – Saturday, March 1st. We welcome church communities to be present as we learn how to impact our own communities.

Justice leader, TED Talk speaker, author, and Flourish friend Sean Goode will be our main speaker as he invites us to move from individual impact to community transformation. Along the way, we’ll also hear from our local Impact Partners and a panel on local reparations, engage in thoughtful and fun breakout sessions tailored to meet your learning needs and share great meals together.

Flourish Ally, Lynn Peters shares, ”I’ve attended the last 3 Flourish gatherings, and they get better each year! Each time I’ve learned more about myself, made great friends and have increased my understanding of racial inequity. I take home tools on how to have a better impact in my local community.  I travel 3000 miles to attend this conference – it was so worth it!

LAMENT

Lament is where grief meets hope—a sacred practice that acknowledges pain while pointing toward healing. It invites us to confront brokenness and trust in the promise of restoration. Through these reflections, we explore lament as a pathway to renewal and justice.

Reflection and Lament Visual
“Our hope can be only as deep as our lament is. And our lament as deep as our hope. Now there is a distinction to be made between true lament and the more sinister form of sadness we know as despair. Despair is lament emptied of hope. It is a shell that invites the whole of your soul to dwell in its void. Many of us will visit this shell, but despair depends upon our staying. With no framework for healthy lament, I was a prisoner to sadness. Even still, it's not good to drag someone from their lament out of fear of despair. In fact, being forced too quickly out of lament can drag the soul into despair in secret. We are left to wander in sadness but without a confidant to help guide us out of the void.”

- Cole Arthur Riley
“Lament is not anti-hope. It's not even a stepping-stone to hope. Lament itself is a form of hope. It's an innate awareness that what is should not be. As if something is written on our hearts that tells us exactly what we are meant for, and whenever confronted with something contrary to this, we experience a crumbling. And in the rubble, we say, God, you promised. We ask, Why?”

Advent

Advent is a season of anticipation, reflection, and hope. As we prepare for the coming of Christ, we recognize the world’s need for justice, peace, and renewal. This Advent, let us lean into the call to love, lament, and act — embracing the light that shines in the darkness and working to bring that light into every corner of our communities.

Advent Reflection Visual

This Advent, we journey through the genealogy of Jesus as recorded in Matthew 1, exploring the stories of individuals who faced exile, displacement, and marginalization. Through their lives, we see how God’s plan of redemption unfolds in the most unexpected ways, often through those who were refugees, outcasts, or strangers in foreign lands. Each week, we reflect on a different ancestor of Jesus, drawing parallels to the experiences of refugees today and contemplating how the birth of Christ – Himself a refugee – calls us to embrace and support the displaced. This devotion challenges us to see the divine in the lives of those who seek refuge and to respond with compassion, recognizing that in welcoming them, we welcome Christ Himself.
