WHAT IS A DEACON?
At South Bay, a deacon is someone who accepts a ministry call of service and care based on the biblical model established in Acts 6 and 1 Timothy 3. Based on this model and criteria, South Bay men and women are recommended, presented and ratified by the congregation to serve in this capacity.
Our mission is to provide care for South Bay Community Church members on their spiritual journey through prayer, encouragement, and general support, as well as support during a crisis.
Your deacon can care for you in many ways such as:
- Sixty Day Check-ins, which may include:
- Phone calls, Texts, Emails, Cards, Face to Face Engagements
- Support in times of crisis/bereavement
- Guidance for benevolence requests
- Visitation and Communion for Sick/Shut-in Connection Support for Classes, Small Groups and Ministries
Every South Bay member is assigned to a Care Unit based on their geographical area, and each Care Unit is assigned to a deacon. (See Care Units by zip code.)
To contact your deacon, you can find their number in the Church Directory or reach them online via a City message.
