What is an Elder
At South Bay, our elders are cherished as guiding lights within our community. They are dedicated to nurturing and supporting the spiritual journey of each member, leading by example and offering insightful guidance. Their role involves steering the congregation with wisdom, fostering growth, and upholding our commitment to core values and principles.
What is the Mission
The mission of the elder ministry at South Bay is to foster a supportive and spiritually healthy community. Elders focus on guiding members through life’s challenges, offering sound advice, and upholding the church’s values and teachings. They play a crucial role in maintaining the integrity of our faith, ensuring that our practices align with our core principles, and promoting a unified and caring church environment.
WHAT DO ELDERS DO?
Elders serve by:
- Providing spiritual oversight and guidance for the church community
- Supporting the Lead Pastor in vision, teaching, and leadership
- Praying for and offering wisdom and discernment to the congregation
- Ensuring the church remains aligned with its mission and values
- Addressing conflicts or concerns with biblical integrity
- Serving as examples of faith, maturity, and Christ-like character
WHAT CAN I EXPECT FROM MY ELDER?
Your elder can care for you in many ways, such as:
- Spiritual Support: Prayer, counseling, and biblical guidance
- Pastoral Care: Visitation during times of crisis, illness, or celebration
- Leadership: Representing your voice and needs in church decisions
- Accountability: Encouraging growth in faith and godly living
- Connection: Helping you find community and opportunities to serve
Every South Bay member is assigned to an elder based on their involvement and needs. To contact your elder, you can:
